Fly and Lure Trout Fishing in PA - Both PA fly fishing and PA trout fishing are things that I have done ever since I was a little kid. Hello anglers, I'm Mark "The Pennsylvania Creek Creature" Winfree. Growing up with a creek right down the road, I spent endless hours fishing. Then, as a teenager with a driver’s license, I began to travel to different creeks throughout the great state of Pennsylvania in search of new and exciting waters to explore. Combining both camping and fishing it just seemed to be the natural fit and offered an inexpensive way to spend the weekends. Since then I have traveled and fished many streams, creeks and rivers in many parts of the country.  Catching trout and smallmouth is fun and rewarding whatever tackle one chooses to use. Each of the varying tackle options uses specific techniques for catching trout. Each has their challenges, advantages and even a few  disadvantages. On my website pages we’ll look at the different ways in which one could go about trout fishing using different rods and reels, baits, lures and flies. We'll also occasionally even discuss catching smallmouth bass. 

In addition, we’ll take a look at the tributaries that make up the varying trout fishable waters. Most PA trout streams fall into the category of either free stone or lime stone streams with many of the larger rivers holding trout, as well. The large rivers like the Susquehanna, Delaware, Allegheny to name a few, hold great smallmouth populations too with many an angler dedicated to fishing for just that species.  Trout fishing, in some ways, is similar to the game of golf. Each stream represents playing a different golf course consisting of differing holes, fast water riffles and flat slow runs that makes fishing them challenging, fun and enjoyable. And like golf, these “holes” have to be “played” just right in order to score well. To help with that, catching more fish that is, we’ll look at what makes up the streams of Pennsylvania and suggest various ways for you to successfully fish them. 

Wildlife, in general, moves to a different rhythm than we humans do. Learning how to make the adjustment and just become a part of their world, for a while, will help make you a much more successful fisherman. Understanding habitat and behavior is always the key to the natural life around us. Cover and food are the essential ingredients to the trout’s world too, so identifying where trout hide and knowing the foods they prefer to eat, is always a top priority to catching them.  Below the water surface is a world completely different to what we live on a daily basis. Part of the fun in fishing is learning about their world and the wonders of nature that it provides.

Canyon Blues - Oregon Inlet, NC and Ocean City, MD Fishing Charters        Canyon Blues Sportfishing Charters offers full service offshore fishing charters out of Oregon Inlet on the Outer Banks of North Carolina, leaving from Broad Creek Marina in Wanchese from late August through early July.
